On 5th November 2012 eab Projektmanagement GmbH started at the wind priority area “Großschirma/ Halsbrücke” with the erection of two powerful wind energy turbines of the type Enercon E-82 E2 with 98 m and 108 m hub height.
Both wind energy turbines have a rotor diameter of 82 m and a total rated power of 4,6 MW. After the planned commissioning in summer of 2013, the produced electricity flows through the grid of Stadtwerke Freiberg.
In 1995 and 2002 eab erected wind energy turbines of the type Enercon E-40 and E-40 6.44 with a total rated power of 1.700 kW at the wind priority area Freiberg/ Langenrinne (Zug), which are the only turbines producing wind energy for Stadtwerke Freiberg to this day. So far the average annual production of 3.300.000 kWh wind energy has covered the electricity demand of about 940 private households (3.500 kWh per household).
Through these two wind energy turbines, which have a total building height of 139 m and 149 m, Freiberg is enhanced in their balance of renewable energy supply severely. By the triple annual production of about 9.930.000 kWh of the new turbines the demand of about 2.840 average households could be covered.
Calculational, these 5 Freiberger wind energy turbines could cover 20 % of the annual electricity demand through wind energy at the current electricity demand of all Freiberger residents of about 65 Mio. GWh per year (source: Stadtwerke Freiberg, 2011).
Mr. Axel Schneegans, chairman of Stadtwerke Freiberg AG, commented: “With the integration of these two powerful wind energy turbines to the grid of Stadtwerke Freiberg we assume responsibility in excess of the city boundary, for the further development of wind power in central Saxony. This is consistent with our middle-term generation strategy, which also allows the construction of own wind energy turbines in Freiberg.”
These two new wind energy turbines are the last ones, which are erected in the wind priority area Großschirma/ Halsbrücke, where already 5 turbines of the type Enercon E-66 and Enercon E-82 were erected.
A major problem to the approval of this project presented the vision related to the “Halsbrücker Esse”. When the project was planned, the dominance of this technical monument was considered in the context of preservation particularly.
The companies Mitteldeutsche Netzgesellschaft mbH as well as Stadtwerke Freiberg AG were asked when the connection network point was selected. The closest connection point in a distance of 5 km and therefore the most economical one was provided by Stadtwerke Freiberg AG in the industrial area “Schwarze Kiefer”.
