When it comes to the construction and operation of wind turbines, Sabowind puts a great deal of energy into finding and planning suitable compensation measures, which we implement together with the community to try to compensate for impacts right in the local area. The final agreement on compensation measures is then made with the nature conservation authorities. From unsealing of soils to planting of vegetation to the creation of naturalistic wetlands, no measure is off limits for enhancing the natural landscape and offering ecological added value for animals and nature.

Demolition of sheds and orchard plantation
Unsealing of area makes new plantings possible
To compensate impairments of nature and landscape due to the construction of two wind turbines at wind farm Artern-Kachstedt, old sheds have been dismantled and an orchard meadow was planted on 7.300 m2 at Seega (Kyffhäuserland district).
By unsealing the area, important soil and water functions have been restored, hence the ground can take up precipitation water. Now the cultivation of the area is possible because once again the plants are able to take up essential minerals from soil water. The measure was completed by creating an orchard meadow with regional fruit varieties and extensive management, which provides habitat for a species-rich fauna (e.g. bees, bats and birds).
The area will be mowed during the first five years. Afterwards mowing will be replaced by pasturing.
