With commissioning in February of this year, Sabowind has completed its largest project to date in the field of ground-mounted photovoltaic systems.
During third quarter of 2024, Sabowind began construction of the photovoltaic plant on the outskirts of the municipality of Dippoldiswalde in the district of Sächsische Schweiz-Osterzgebirge, just under 20 km from Dresden. A total of 71,136 modules were installed on an area of 19 hectares. These generate 40 GWh of green electricity per year, which is enough to cover the energy demand of more than 11,000 households. The municipality of Dippoldiswalde receives a financial contribution in accordance with Section 6 of the German Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG).
In addition to the PV plant, a 40 MVA substation was built in the neighboring town of Ulberndorf, 3,000 m away, so that the energy generated can be fed into the grid.
After a construction period of just under six months, the plant and the substation were successfully commissioned. This is one of Sabowind's largest open-space photovoltaic projects in Germany, to date. Large scale projects like this lead to specific challenges, which all were overcome thanks to the support of various construction companies and the understanding of local residents.
